Birthday Dues

Uncle Julio's: Butterfly Shrimp, Rice and Beans, Tortillas

I've been blessed with yet another chance at life, love and the pursuit of my happiness. This birthday was a little bit different than others previously. I did not get that jittery sense of anxiety in the moments leading up to this day. Or even the fulfillment for a countdown. When I woke up today, I still felt the same (I think everyone can agree on this with me). I think what was different about this day was that I was alone. And this is not to say that I spent the day sulking, because I enjoyed a nice brunch with my brother and mother. But I was alone in the sense that, I was on break from school, away from my social scene, and I was just enjoying this precious moment in the comfort of my home and family. I am glad I got to experience this part of my life with them. Being in college and the mid-20's, we often get caught up in the world of academics, friends and parties. I think that it is important to remain humbled because (for most of us) family is one of the stones that we use to hold us firm in our beliefs, values and sometimes sanity. This past year has taught me so much about myself and I am still learning as a young adult. Overall, I am blessed to live yet another day. In retrospect, it's so interesting to watch yourself over the years and even more interesting to watch your identity form. Things surely aren't perfect on my end of things. I have been MIA from this blog for quite some time. Respectfully, I had to figure some things out. I read this quote that said, "Stop saying I don't have the time, start saying, it's not a priority. If you feel weird about saying that then change the habit." Over time, this blog as become less of a priority on my table of things. Frankly, it hasn't been on the table at all during some moments. I see myself moving in a different direction than the original purpose of this blog. Moving forward, I will still post, but it will not be at a frequency as it has been in the past. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year. I'm exploring the facets of my life that I've never considered before and were once a mystery. I hear that there is point in your life where you begin to look at things in a different view. Frankly, I maybe at that point. I'm realizing that the strongest opinion I can have is one of myself and I am my biggest supporter and motivator. I am fortunate enough to be given opportunities that allow me to explore that side of myself. I'm excited for what is to come and I only look forward it. Here's to another year.

Thrifted everything but ALDO booties

I'm tired. Physically, not yet mentally but it's bound to occur sooner or later. I thank God every Tuesday and Thursday in excess because my pilates class is finally over and done with. Therefore, I finish my day just after 1 now which leaves me a lot of time to bullshit clearly because I got nothing done! I really need to get my priorities in order because I've been running on four hours of sleep each day this week for reasons that could've been clearly avoided. Today was the first day of Spring though and it was actually extremely decent outside. It was far too windy for my taste but that can simply be ignored, at least when it's not flipping your wig over your head. It's been a pretty intense week with our National Pan-Hellenic Council Spring step show coming up and my dance team is cleaning up our performance piece seeing as though this is one of the biggest performances of the semester.

I'm not sexy

Today was a semi-warm day, the first day there was hope for Spring. It wasn't the most significant day; however, I was in a pretty decent mood. Most likely because I really liked this outfit and I just felt particularly pretty. This is yet another find from New York, I know you guys remember my whole spiel about not being able to find a long enough acid-wash denim jacket to thrift so I had to submit to reality and actually buy one. Well, aHA New York, specifically Manhattan and Brooklyn just seem to have them in abundance! Peeeeved.

Yung Rapunxel

So I spent a grand majority of the last of break and last night doing my hair, layering my hair... I was supposed to be asleep and there I was. It turned out so well though so my sacrifice was well placed! Today was a great and tiring day is the logical conclusion. Featured in this edit is one of the many thrifted items I scored while I was in New York.

these past week

eBay wool hat, everything else thrifted but Topshop frilly socks, and Primark Oxfords

Yes, I am still alive so don't fret! As you all know, for Spring Break I went to the city and it was just as amazing as it always is. This time I navigated through three boroughs all on my lonesome, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and a tad of Harlem. If I want to be a true city girl when I move to New York, everything needs to be like knowledge on the back of my hand. I went to many major vintage shops and "thrifty" stores, finally finding everything I've been looking for back at home for years. Par example, remember the stone washed vintage jacket I've been searching for that's large and long enough to cover my arsenal? Found it. I also copped this original Stü jersey for only 15 bones. I got this amazing fire engine red fuzzy button-up and a cool rubik's cube style top. On Monday my friends and I went to Times Square because for one of us, it was her first real time there. So she did the whole cliche picture taking bit then we got down to the nitty-gritty and subway'd to SoHo for some apparently famous ice-cream then we stumbled upon Beacon's Closet, my now very favorite high-end vintage store.

Tuesday I really ventured on my own, thrifting up and down Manhattan and Brooklyn. Wednesday was a special day though because The Fashion Society of my school was extended the invitation to come to the Headquarters of Bloomingdale's for a panelist meeting about fashion, job opportunities, internships, and everything else under the sun. The few of us that could make it had so much fun and I am so eternally grateful for the experience. Not to mention the space is freaking ridiculous. It's truly beautiful. I ended that day at the Barclay's Center, I was really everywhere, where I witnessed my school's ballas lose up close and personal. It was quite the time.

I started this post on the bus back home and I'm ending it on my bed, in my room, at my house. Haha. I'm already home sick of my true home in the city. I think I really enjoy the vibes of Manhattan and I'm happy now I have a solid goal to work towards. Living there. I'll be back soon... in the meantime, enjoy my photos!
