POSE

This outfit came together so very randomly. Honestly, I feel like I haven't really been dressing to the 9s. Maybe things have gotten so busy, my comfort has been kind of put on the back burner. ALSO probably because I'm broke as a joke and I don't even have time to consider making a trip to the thrift. Literally, March was mayhem and I thought I'd have April as a brake, but just like the first, that was a complete joke.

Urban Renewal fishtail jacket, Forever21 dress, headscarf Sade's gift to me from India
So I've been piecing a lot things together the morning of, if you know me you know that's not my thing and that's probably a big reason nothing has really been feeling, complete. I think this was an exception and I just like the dynamic. It was actually supposed to be a rainy day, the reason for pulling out my lab rain coat. However, seeing as though I missed my first class...and almost my second class I also missed the rain and cool morning *insert hard side-eye*. Purposefully created a rain-friendly outfit and missed the rain, what the hell. Other than nearly sweating it out, I think it came together pretty well. If I could swap something out...it'd probably be the flatforms; I really didn't intend for it to look so matchy. In fact, my socks had dark green on them as well and I scrunched them down to hide it because I was sick with the coordination.

ANTI Weekend

If you've been following us even for just a little bit of time, you know I've been through some trials and tribulations through this whole college thing. Just feeling as though I'm not reaping as much as I feel like I'm sewing, and I feel like I be sewing a whole lot okay. I've felt like giving up so many times, so, so, so many times. You just get tired of things not going the way you'd like if you really do feel like you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. But as stubborn as I am, I'm not the type to just give up. I've said this many times before but it's simply not in my nature. My mother literally did not raise me that way. I'm just really happy to say things took a spiritually magical turn recently and I couldn't have been happier. At the time, I really did need some reassurance my head is screwed on properly. A little nudge to keep working. And I felt so deserving to reward myself properly. Not half-assed when you know you ain't really meet your expectations but fuuuck it, type of thing. Real guiltless turn ups!

First up was our annual Africa Night; I whipped this outfit together so last minute. I had the perfect outfit really but I'd planned on wearing it for a future lookbook so that just wouldn't do. This eventually came together in the end and I love it so much. Ankara is such a fun material to style.

Then I was off to Maryland to see my badass beotch. Not really sure where you've been if you don't know Ri is my partial spirit animal, but catch up cause she is and this was a magical night. I respect her so much more as an artist after the show, she really put on a performance. I hate it when people compare her work to the likes of someone like Beyonce because we all know there isn't a common denominator in their music and style besides from the fact they both sing! So please halt. Beyonce performs Beyonce and Rihanna sure does do her own thing. I was absolutely in love. From the aesthetics, to the outfit changes, to the venue set up...opened up my eyes to even more career paths mixing all of my passions.

It's so important to treat yourself, whether you feel you deserve it or not, but especially when you've been working so hard and are finally reaping some benefits. Be selfish! Indulge in yourself. Love yourself harder than anyone else can.

Are you Mad?

In celebration of my belated birthday, I gathered a few friends for a Saturday brunch at the Whimsical Madhatter at DuPont circle in D.C. For our DC locals-- I  highly recommend this spot! The restaurant's take on Alice in Wonderland is purely genius and ties in well. This is my second time going to Madhatter and the quality of service was no different from the first!

On my walk across U Street, I found this comical street art. It's hard to not laugh at the state of American politics right now :)

As we move into Spring and the weather begins to transition, it becomes so much easier (at least for me) to see the beauty in a lot of my environment. I stopped by an academic building to pick up a phone call and a girl beside me stopped to take a picture. I turned my head to see what she was looking at. Boom! In my face was a beautiful pink tree next to a beautifully-shaped archway. The things you'd notice if you just stopped and admired our beauty. Instantly when I took these pictures (below), I couldn't help but draw parallels to the architecture in Morocco.

Morocco's architecture and distinct colors could be comparable. Morocco is definitely on my hit list for the next two years. I find myself constantly mesmerized by its beauty and history.

Creeper x No Rihanna

1:23 AM missusmonroe 0 Comments

Gone are the days where these platformed shoes were reserved for emo kids and the fashion fiends who lacked a faint heart. Gone, gone, gone. PUMA, aka RiRi, opened the flood gates so it's therefore nearly synonymous with Sam Smith's "Superstars" *cue eyeroll*... I lied it can't possibly be that watered down. Nothing, nothing compares to those horrid shoes. Anyway let's move on cause I can literally rant about my hatred for those things for a very long time. These Creepers...are still a very interesting addition to my closet.

Thrifted everything (DIY shorts) gojane shoes

After about four years they have somewhat come back in style but not really, it's just Rihanna making them relevant once again. I've always loved the dimension they add to an outfit, especially the way I styled them this day, where your legs look like they are literally endless. Endless. This brings me back to Christmas '12 where all I wanted were Creepers. I just saw so much potential in the shoe..weird enough to say ~lol~ I just believed in them in a way. I was like these are gunna be it, they need to be in my closet. Well what actually happened was my mother just gave me the money for them instead of that lovely T.U.K. box being under our tree. I'm such a strange human being, it's very strange I can't really shell a lot of money on just one item of clothing or anything alike. It's not really something I frequently indulge in, even I see its ability to seamlessly transfer to different seasons and be worn multiple times and ways. I prefer to splurge on experiences, if I have the money in my hand I'll end up buying a cheap version and shape shift my money from there. It's a very different outcome when something is gifted to me obviously. Which is exactly what happened here.

I ended up using maybe a third of the money on some fakes and the rest is somewhere in this world lol. Much to my despair these shoes fell apart when I went on my London adventure and was literally walking everywhere, nothing super glue couldn't fix..still fixes and will more than likely continue to fix. These particular platformed babies may look good from afar but they are such a bitch to actually walk in. The mouth hardly bends is the real ordeal so I'm flatfooted literally walking flatfooted for hours. Other than that (hah) I do like them. I think that's why I don't wear them often; when I forget about the experience I'll wonder why I never wear them and end up nearly suffering yet again. To be honest I'm quite pleased how this outfit came together. It was something completely different at first, involving a turtle neck and PVC...needless to say it was a mess. I'd x'd out the turtleneck because it was far too warm for that and honestly, that element with the matching coat I was to wear really made the outfit. What happened was a plum mess with a skimpy looking skirt. So I just traded in the shine for some basics and viola! Gorilla glue and all.
